“And ladies: don’t let anybody ever tell you you are past your prime.” - Michelle Yeoh

Well that was exciting! I’ve been a fan of Michelle Yeoh for years. I love sci-fi and so have watched her in in Star Trek and Guardians of the Galaxy, I loved her in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Golden Rings, and her character, Santa, in Last Christmas.. She’s one of those actors who turn up, do the work brilliantly and turn up again.

Perseverance.

I resonate with Yeoh. We’re almost exactly the same age (60) and she studied ballet at the Royal Academy, where I almost went!! Actually that’s where the similarities probably end, apart from maybe hard work and perseverance…

As an older woman, I am still shocked at the standard stereotypes of what a woman ‘should’ be at 60. Surely we have moved beyond this?

I’m working with several ‘older’ women who are looking to change their jobs. It’s a challenge. And self-doubt creeps in. Society still favours the young. All the fears, insecurities and negative thoughts appear, just as we think we’re ready to go.

So Michelle’s comment “And ladies: don’t let anybody ever tell you you are past your prime.”… will be my mantra for this month :)
