Community Art - why it is so important

Today, I’m embarking on an exploration of the vital role of community art – a space where diverse voices converge and the magic of creativity flourishes.

In a world often focused on the individual, community art offers a refreshing perspective. It's not just about skill; it's about connection – to oneself and others. Regardless of age or background, everyone finds a place in this collaborative canvas.

Community art isn't just about creating; it's about the benefits it brings. It fosters empathy, resilience, and a sense of belonging. Through shared experiences, we find solace and inspiration. At the heart of community art, lies the simple yet profound truth: art is not merely about skilful brushstrokes or flawless technique; it's about connection – connection to oneself, to others, and to the world around us.

One of the most beautiful aspects of community art is its inclusivity. It transcends age, background, and experience, where everyone has a voice and a story to tell.

Since leaving school teaching last December, I’ve been working more within my local community and the surrounding towns and villages. My latest project is a collaboration with local groups gathering the stories of the people who live and work here.

My first question is “How did you end up here?”. And then I listen.
