After more than ten years of teaching and lecturing in mainstream education, I now work as a freelance artist and teacher within special educational needs and disabilities. I enjoy the freedom of lecturing, teaching and presenting work in different places and to different people. My visual artwork is mainly digital and is often site specific to where I am exhibiting or lecturing. My soundscapes are an exploration of the places and sites which have inspired me and include voice and electronic music combined with spoken word and environmental noises. Soundscapes can be heard on my SoundCloud page.
I am currently researching how the digital world makes an impact on education, and will speaking at the Digital Transformation Conference in 2018
I have a background in Mental Health Services and am currently delivering art programmes for sufferers and their carers. I believe that we all have a creative flicker inside, and I am honoured to be a trigger or catalyst for someone else’s adventure.
It always makes me happy when ex-students get in touch, so if I have ever taught you, let me know what you’re up to now!
I run courses for teachers and educators, helping to ignite creativity in the classroom, so please get in touch.
My research centres on the concept of ‘attention’ and ‘memory’, and I work in collaboration with other artists, dancers, musicians and very recently with neuroscientists.
My book, The Cat Brought in a Live Pigeon (A Student Guide to A Level Art & Design) is available here.
“An inspirational and easy to read guide to A Level Art and Design courses. As the reader, you really get the impression that Cate is speaking directly to you, encouraging you to think creatively and experimentally, whilst at the same time helping you to understand the expectations of teachers and examiners in relation to the standards that you are expected to attain to. A concise and helpful aid to helping you to achieve your potential in Art and Design courses as well as being exceptional value for money!” Emma (Amazon review)
Bugger! Oh Dear! I Failed My Exams is available here. A short, practical guide to what to do next.
I sing with the a cappella group Academix A Cappella.
